History - Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains has served as Sydney’s relief valve for more than 150 years. When the summer is at it hottest in the city and humidity drenches, when stress is overwhelming, when nature beckons. Sydney people have headed for the Blue Mountains to rejuvenate in clean cool fresh air, wander through natural landscapes and to slow down.
 

Aboriginal Blue Mountains Dreamtime: Learn the legend of the Three Sisters at the Blue Mountains

The moment The aborigianl dreamtime legend has it that three sisters named , Meehni, Wimlah and Gunnedoo lived happily in the Jamison valley with their tribe called Gundungurra. The three beautifull young sisters had fallen in love with three brothers from the Daruk tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry.

The three brothers were very unhappy and did not want to accept this law. They decided to use force to capture the three sisters which caused a major tribal battle.As the battle went on the three sisters were seriously in danger.

One of the girls tribes men called Kuradjuri (clever man) took it upon himself to turn the three sisters into stone while the battle rages. Then his intention was to turn them back to their former beauty after the battle was over. What he did not xpect to happen was his own death as he was killed during battle. As only he could reverse the spell the sisters are said to remain in the magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come.

Stories have been told that if you are wandering around the base of the Blue Mountains in the evening and hear strange sounds nearby, it could be the ghost or the man Kuradjuri trying to still change the three sisters back to life.
