Hartley Accommodation - Blue Mountains

Hartley is an historic area west of the Blue Mountains. It is located on the Great Western Highway between Mt Victoria and Lithgow. If you are driving from Mt Victoria, you will drive over Victoria Pass, across the convict-built Mitchell's Bridge and down into the beautiful Kanimbla Valley.

With the opening of the Victoria Pass in 1832 Hartley was one of the first settlements west of the Blue Mountains. In its heyday, Hartley was an important centre for the region. The town thrived from 1837 to 1887 when it catered to settlers and gold miners travelling west, but lost much of its population after the railway by-passed the town in 1877.

Today, Hartley has many well-preserved colonial buildings and is a fine example of architecture in the 1800s.

Hartley and Little Hartley merge into one as you drive through this area. Hartley and Little Hartley are now a collection of farms and buildings - with the most historic buildings found in a cluster in Hartley Historic Village on the LHS of the highway at Old Bathrust Road.
