Faulconbridge Accommodation - Blue Mountains

Faulconbridge is a small village in the Blue Mountains. If you are travelling to the mountains from Sydney, it is one of the first towns you will see. It is only 77 kms west of Sydney and is 450m above sea level.

Faulconbridge has had two famous residents in its time.

Firstly Sir Henry Parkes, best remembered as the Father of Federation and five times premier of the NSW parliament, bought 600 acres in the area in 1877. He named his residence Faulconbridge House, as Faulconbridge was his mother's maiden name. The town was named after that residence. Parkes died in 1896 and is buried in the Faulconbridge Cemetery.

Secondly, artist and writer Norman Lindsay lived in a Faulconbridge residence called 'Springwood' from 1912 until his death in 1969. Since the early 1970s the home, and the gardens Lindsay created, have been open to the general public. 'Springwood' is now a gallery and museum of his work - it is run by the National Trust.

Some of the streets of Faulconbridge have been named after the characters in Lindsay's famous book 'The Magic Pudding'.
